Looking through a16z’s "Big Ideas in Tech for 2025" provides a vital sanity check as we plan our long-term engineering roadmaps. By this point, the initial wave of AI hype has started to crystallize into distinct, pragmatic infrastructure layers, and the forecasts reflect this maturation. As an engineer, I see this as a call to move beyond simple API integrations and start thinking about deeper structural shifts—such as how agentic workflows, complex local computation, and new data privacy paradigms are reshaping the basic expectations of enterprise software and consumer applications alike.

For our startup, the challenge is choosing which of these massive structural waves to ride and which to actively ignore. We don't have the resources of a big tech company to experiment in every direction, so we have to be incredibly disciplined in our focus.
